The line

Placeholder. I drew every face as a single unbroken contour, because a card is read in a fraction of a second and a line does that work better than a mass. The pips sit on the old quincunx grid rather than a modern even one — it is the arrangement a player's hand already knows, and fighting that is vanity rather than design. Nothing on the face is filled, so the card carries the colour of whatever table it is on.

The solid

Placeholder. Where the first design is a drawing, this one is a print. Every pip is solid and every index sits in a filled panel, so the card reads at the far end of a table and under bad light — which is where most games are actually played. The courts are built from the same monogram as the wordmark, turned through 180 degrees so the card is the same card whichever way it is dealt.
